Troop Notes July 26,2007

Welcome Back – From all accounts, this was one of the best of Troop 874's many, many summer camping experiences! Whoever has the troop camera, please let me know and I'll arrange to get the photos to Brian Meek, our web master. If individuals have photos that they can put onto a disc and give to Brian or me, that would be fantastic. We should have lots of photos to share on our troop's web site. If there are any particularly good stories from summer camp, I'm sure Brian would post them with the photos.

Upcoming Eagle Project – Billy J's project is to build a patio, benches and erect a flag pole in front of the National Cryptologic Museum. The project will take place on Saturday, August 11th, starting at 8:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome and this is a great opportunity to get service time for rank advancement… and food and drink will be provided! The museum is a stone's throw from the National Security Agency (aka, No Such Agency, Never Say Anything and the Puzzle Palace). Additional information and directions are in the attached flier.

Another Eagle Project - The Troop Committee approved Josh Y's Eagle project this evening and it is scheduled for August 11th and 12th. A flier with the details should be ready by the next "informal" meeting.

International Festival Columbia has its International Day Festival from noon until 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28th at the Columbia Town Center. By attending this event, scouts would fulfill the requirement 7.e. for the Citizenship in the World merit badge - Participate in or attend an international event in your area, such as an ethnic festival, concert, or play.

Informal Meetings – The troop's "informal" meetings have started. We don't wear uniforms, we don't have formations, we don't collect dues, but we do have fun and this is the perfect time to work on merit badges and other rank advancements. Many of the adult merit badge counselors are on hand as are the scoutmasters. We meet at 7:30-ish and finish whenever you've accomplished what you came to do or by 9:00 p.m. Take advantage of these opportunities!
