Troop Notes September 6, 2007

Due to the Rosh Hashanah holiday, there is no troop meeting next Thursday , September 13th.

Court of Honor – Our next meeting (9-20-07) is the Court of Honor and will be at the outdoor recreation area at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). Start time is 7:30. We will not meet at Glen Mar. Directions to APL are attached. The picnic area is on the east side of Sanner Road, about 3/4 mile from the intersection of Sanner Road and Johns Hopkins Road.

Adult Training - Wagon Wheel – This is a great course for all adults! It teaches the objectives and methods used to implement a quality program that will help Scouts advance and keep them interested in the program. Parents will benefit by understanding how the program operates, allowing them to better support their sons. Spaces fill up quickly and, therefore, if you want to register for this course, please contact Chip Galloway (email scoutmaster944@yahoo.com) immediately to reserve a spot. The training dates are:

October 6 -- Session 1: New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee

October 20 -- Session 2: Scoutmaster & Assistant Scoutmaster

November 2 to 4 -- Session 3: Outdoor Leader Skills

The complete registration form is at:

http://nationalpike.org/an_brochures/2007_FallWagonWheel.pdf

Troop 874 pays 100% of the registration fee!

Looking ahead, the spring 2008 Wagon Wheel training is scheduled for April 19, 26 and May 16-18, 2008.

Drivers Needed for the September Camping Trip – Mr. Mike Meyers, the Troop's transportation coordinator, needs drivers to take boys to and from Calvert Cliffs on 14-16 September. Please contact Mike directly if you can drive (410-239-2068 or trainermike@comcast.net).

Merit Badge Books – If you have merit badge books that you no longer need and would like to make them available for other boys to use, please give them to our Troop Librarian, Kevin Duerr. Also, please return merit badge books that belong to the Troop to Kevin.

Service time to benefit Habitat for Humanity & the American Heart Association - If you are not camping with the troop.... Mrs. Clay would like help on Saturday, 15 September, to move art that was bought as part of an auction to benefit these charities. She requests boys who are 14 and older and needs help from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Howard County Conservancy. Directions are at: http://www.hcconservancy.org/Directions.htm . If more information is needed, please contact Mrs. Clay. This also counts as service time.

Eagle Project – Matt S.'s Eagle Project will be on 22 and 29 September. He will be making a memorial garden at the Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church (intersection of Rt. 29 and Rt. 99). A flyer is attached and, of course, food and drink will be provided. For more information, contact Matt.
