Tim S. successfully passed his board of review for the rank of Eagle. Congratulations, Tim!

Kyle R's Eagle Project will be at the First Lutheran Evangelical Church (3604 Chatham Road in Ellicott City) on Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21, starting at 12:30 in the afternoon. He will construct a gathering area and refurbish meditation trail in a wooded area behind the church. See the attached flier for what to bring and for directions. Though Kyle doesn't mention food in his flier, I think we can count on lots of stuff to eat and drink!

The annual rechartering starts next Thursday. Parents, please pick up your son's reregistration package at the next meeting.

Mr. Randy Possehl invited the scouts to consider a 10-day outing next summer to Haliburton Scout Reserve in Canada. Tentative dates are 31 July – 10 August 2008 and the cost would be approximately $500. This is a wonderful camp and a great opportunity to see scouting in action in a foreign country. Boys need to be 13 years or older by the start of the trip. To sign up or for more information, contact Mr. Possehl for an overview of the camp, see the web site at: http://www.scoutgtr.org/haliburton/gtc_hsr.asp .

The October camping trip (Role Play!) is 26-28 October. Permission slips and money need to be turned in at the next troop meeting.

Reminder -- Scouts must be in complete uniform to sit for a board of review and to receive any advancement. Scouts should be in full uniform every week (pants, belt, shirt and neckerchief), but to advance in rank it is essential. If you have questions as to what is meant by a "full uniform", you can ask any of the adult leadership or your son can ask anyone in a Scout leadership position.

The troop is having a fund raiser to support the Wish-Upon-A-Star program, which provides Christmas gifts to families from Glen Mar United Methodist Church who can not afford them. Bring the attached flyer to the Pizza Hut at Route 108 on Monday, October 29, between 5-9 p.m. and 20% of the net sales will be donated to Troop 874. This applies to dine in or carry out!

The troop is also planning to host two concession stands at the Simon Decker Soccer Tournament on November 10 and 11.   Proceeds will also support the Wish-Upon-A-Star program. Mr. Scot Loiselle is the Troops point of contact and will provide more information soon.

On the horizon… The February 2008 outing will be to a ski area in West Virginia. Start thinking snow!

Who are the members of the Troop Committee? All registered adults who are not scoutmasters or the charter organization representative are automatically members of the Troop Committee. We meet the 1 st Wednesday of every month from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at Glen Mar. This is where we conduct the troops business. You are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings. The committee notes are always posted to the troop's web site, but I'm attaching the notes from the October meeting so you can get a feel for the type of business being conducted. We'd like your participation!

All adults are also encouraged to attend the National Pike District's Round Table . We meet from 7:30-9:00 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Columbia Academy (10350 Old Columbia Road). Round Tables are especially good for scoutmasters, patrol coaches and others who work directly with the youth, but everyone is welcome! We share innovative ways to keep boys interested in the program and new ways to present rather ordinary subjects. Topics for discussion / learning are:

November 12th            Cooking

December 10th Wilderness Survival

You'll not only learn more about the scouting program, but you'll meet the key adult leaders in the National Pike District. If you have questions, some of the regular attendees from the troop are Ken Springer, Bud Hunt, Randy Possehl and Bob Johnson. Please join us at the Round Table!
