Welcome to all the new Scouts and their families who are
joining Troop 874! New Scouters (registered
adults) will be issued a Troop 874 neckerchief. We weren't prepared (oh no!)
for the great turnout of new adults. Dennis will have neckerchiefs next week.
Thanks to all of you who came in uniform. It really does make a difference when
we set the example for the Scouts. Also, many of you were asking about name
badges. We should have a badge making operation during our first camping trip
and you'll get your official Troop 874 name badge at the camping trip or
shortly thereafter!
Troop Email Alias Unfortunately, some of the names
and email addresses of the new parents that I thought that I added to our email
alias were apparently not accepted. Worse yet, I threw away the list after
(supposedly) entering them in the system. If you know people who are not
getting the notes or if you want additional email addresses added to the alias,
please send a note to troop874.information@gmail.com.
March Camping Trip
Tents and patrol boxes were issued to the Scouts. Boys are responsible for the
equipment for the next 6 months. If your son doesn't know who he will share a
tent with, he needs to ask his patrol leader. Permission slips for camping were
due yesterday. There was a request for drivers who have bike racks to help
carry bikes to Tuckahoe. If you have a bike rack, please talk with the Ranger
Program Scoutmaster, Greg Fabella, at the next
meeting. Ken Springer, a.k.a. Mom, collected $20 for food from the adults who
will attend.
Lost! Scouts and parents, please check your home for
any of the Troop's camping equipment. In case you're wondering, basements,
garages and oftentimes the Scouts' rooms are where the gear likes to hide.
Venture equipment usually hides in more unusual spots; we suggest checking
between the Scouts' beds and the walls, under the beds and sometimes on or
under the back porch. If found, please return to the Troop.
Mulch Fundraiser The troop is selling top-quality
mulch for $3.80 / bag with delivery directly to your home on April 5th. Scouts
will be taking orders. If you use mulch, you probably won't find a better buy
than this! See the attached flier for more information.
The 2008 Friends of Scouting
campaign continues! Mr. Bud Hunt will have fliers at the next troop meeting
one is also attached to this email. Your donation can be mailed to the
address on the flier. Please be generous and thanks in advance for your
continued support of the Scouting Program!
Summer Camp 2008 Troop 874 will go to Broad Creek
Memorial Scout Reservation from 13 19 July. Registration begins next week.
Remember, boys who go to summer camp stay in Scouting!
Awesome! Mr. Mark Moulding
and others trained the new Scout leadership team last weekend. Thanks to all
the boys who attended and special thanks to Mr. Moulding
and his trainers!
Eagle Project on 19 & 20 March Mahesh will
complete his Eagle Project at the Therapeutic and
Wagon Wheel - Adult Leader Training Adults, new and
old, are encouraged to attend Wagon Wheel Training. You will learn the
principles of the Scouting Program and have loads of fun. Troop 874 will
reimburse 100% of the registration fee upon completion of the course!
Registration forms are at:
http://www.troop874.com/Training/WagonWheelFlierSpring2008.pdf.
There will be no troop meeting on Thursday, March 20th. Glen
Mar UMC will be used for church services.
Scout Sunday is this Sunday at Glen Mar UMC. If you go to
one of the church services at Glen Mar, please attend in full scout uniform.
The National Scout Sunday, which most churches observed, was in February. So,
this one is only for Glen Mar.
Adult Volunteer Positions Everyone has been waiting for the list of adult positions within Troop 874. I thought I could get it completed tonight, but couldn't get it done. I will send a separate email tomorrow with all of the open positions. Sorry to keep you in suspense, but it is approaching my bedtime and I am apt to make (more) mistakes if I do things late at night. Thanks for your interest and for your patience.
