Troop 874 Notes for Thursday, April 4, 2008
Mulch
Scouts and adults will be needed to assist in distributing
the bagged mulch on Saturday especially some of our big Venture program
scouts. We need adults with pick-up
trucks, vans, or trailers to assist in delivering mulch. With enough drivers it may take only a few
hours. Come to Midasco,
Inc, Elkridge, MD beginning at 8:00 am.
Contact Mr. Phil Conant at troop874.mulch@gmail.com if you can help
deliver mulch.
Eagle Scout Court of Honor – Travis G. will have his Eagle
Scout Court of Honor on Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 pm at the Howard County
Central Library. Come share this special
day with Travis. Note that this counts
as a troop activity for those scouts working on Second Class and First Class
rank advancement.
Eagle Scout Court of Honor – Troop 874 will hold an Eagle Court
of Honor for Tim S. next Thursday, April 10 during the regular Troop
meeting. Come join the troop as we
celebrate this special event with Tim and his family. The meeting will start at 7:30 sharp!
The Troop is looking for a videographer
to take video of the next two Eagle Courts of Honor. See Bob Johnson or Kevin McGovern. Help preserve the lasting memory of this
event for a scout and his family.
Wagon Wheel Training – This is a crash course in the
fundamentals of the scouting program held with other adults. This is an invaluable experience for parents
who are new to Boy Scouting because it provides an understanding of how the
program works while gathering insight into the real heart of the scouting
program. Patrol Coaches and committee
members are also strongly encouraged to attend Wagon Wheel training. The course consists of two one day sessions
(April 12 and April 19) and a weekend session which stresses outdoor leader
skills (May 2-4). Talk with Hal Clay,
Assistant Scoutmaster in the Ranger program, for more information. The $45 fee will be reimbursed by the troop
for any registered adult member who successfully completes the course. For more info check out the
troop web site for an application form.

Friends of Scouting – The troop is coming down the home
stretch for the Friends of Scouting campaign.
So far the troop has collected $6885 from 25 families!!! This is an awesome contribution but just a
little short of the record $10,000 raised last year from 40 families. See the attached contribution form or see Bud
Hunt at the troop meeting. We expect to
close the campaign in mid-April.
Interested in attending the 2010 National BSA Jamboree at
Fort A.P. Hill? Scouts and Scouters should see the current Area Scouter
to complete a simple form indicating your interest. The form can be returned to Baltimore Area
Council.
Note that Howard County Schools are closed on Thursday,
April 24 but we will hold our regular that evening.
All scouts in leadership positions are expected to attend
the monthly PLC meeting this Monday, April 7 at 7:00 pm.
