Troop 874 Notes for Thursday, March 27, 2008

Mulch Sale – Troop 874 is sponsoring a mulch sale and the delivery date is fast approaching!  The cost if $3.80 for a 2.0 cubic foot bag of high quality hardwood bark mulch.  Orders can be placed by this Thursday, April 3.  Bags will delivered to your door at no extra charge.  You can place your order on line using the Troop's web site.  Proceeds go to the Make a Wish Campaign where the Troop sponsors needy families during Christmas.  See the following web site for more info:  http://www.troop874.com/MulchSaleOrderForm.htm

Scouts will be needed to assist in distributing the bagged mulch on Saturday  especially some of our big Venture program scouts.  This is another great opportunity for younger scouts (new Pioneer Scouts!) to earn service time.

The Books are Better Campaign – Join members of Troop 874 as they collect used books in the community and contribute them to a needy school in Baltimore.  This effort is part of Matt K's Eagle project.  This week-end you can distribute plastic bags in your neighborhood and pickup the bags (hopefully with books inside) the next weekend.  Let Matt know you are available to assist him.  This is a fine opportunity to earn service time for rank advancement while working in your own neighborhood.

Wagon Wheel Training – Not a course in moving the family west via the rugged wagon train!  Rather this is a unique way to learn the fundamentals of the scouting program with other adults.  This is an invaluable course for parents who are new to Boy Scouting because it provides an understanding of how the program works while gathering insight into the real heart of the scouting program.  Patrol Coaches and committee members are also strongly encouraged to attend Wagon Wheel training.  The course consists of two one day sessions (April 12 and April 19) and a weekend session which stresses outdoor leader skills (May 2-4).  Talk with Hal Clay, Assistant Scoutmaster in the Ranger program, for more information.  The $45 fee will be reimbursed by the troop for any registered adult member who successfully completes the course.  For more info check out the troop web site for an application form.  http://www.troop874.com/training.htm

Friends of Scouting – The troop is coming down the home stretch for the Friends of Scouting campaign.  So far the troop has collected $5205 from 21 families!!!  This is an awesome contribution but it is a little short of the record $10,000 raised last year from 40 families.  See the attached contribution form or see Bud Hunt at the troop meeting.

Committee Meeting – The monthly Troop 874 Committee meeting will be held this Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 pm, Glen Mar United Methodist Church, 2nd floor.
