Troop 874 Notes, October 2, 2008

 

Patrol Leaders Council – Monday, October 6 at 7:00 pm will be the next PLC meeting which will be held at the new Glen Mar UMC location.  All scouts in leadership positions are expected to attend.

 

Webelos-O-Ree – The troop is looking for Ranger and Venture Scouts to assist in staffing a station at the Webelos-O-Ree on 24 – 26 October.  This is a great opportunity to demonstrate scouting skills and a great way to recruit future members to Troop 874.  See Mr. Mike Rice.

 

Adult CPR Class – The next CPR (Adult) class will be held on Thursday, October 23 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm.  The class will take place at Glen Mar UMC and can accommodate up to 10 persons.  If interested, send an e-mail to Stephanie Landry-Fida

 

Patrol Equipment and Patrol Boxes – Mr. Clark reminded all that patrol boxes and equipment must be returned at the next scheduled meeting on October 16.  Any replacement tents for defective tents must be selected at that time.

 

American Odyssey Relay Race – The troop is interested in organizing a relay team to participate in this 200 mile race from Gettysburg, Pa to Washington, D.C on 24-25 April, 2009.  The team can consist of 12 runners including adults and scouts.  Scouts should be 16 years of age preferably with cross country running experience.  Each runner will be expected to complete 3 separate legs between 3.5 and 8.5 miles in length over approximately 24 – 30 hours.  The course will span three states and the District of Columbia crossing through major Civil War battlefields.  There is an individual fee of $100 to enter the race.  For more information about the race and course, see http://www.americanodysseyrelay.com/.  Contact Mr. Bud Hunt or Mr. Todd Pearsall if you would like to join the troop relay team.

 

New Eagle Scout Hatched!!!  Congratulations to Kevin D. on recently completing his Eagle Scout Board of Review!

 

Wood Badge Challenge – Congratulations to Will Land and Hal Clay in completing the practical phase of their Wood Badge training.  They both now begin an extensive period where they must complete agreed-upon projects aimed at the betterment of scouting, the individual or their community.  Congratulations to Will and Hal on taking on this advanced BSA adult training.

 

No troop meeting on Thursday, October 9 – In observance of Yom Kippur and the closure of all Howard County Schools, the regular weekly troop meeting will not be held.
