Troop 874 Notes, October 30, 2008

 

Meetings This Week –

PLC meeting on Monday starting at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Mar.  All scout leaders are expected to attend.

 

Committee Meeting – Wednesday at 7:30 at Glen Mar.  All Committee Members are encouraged to attend.

 

Thanksgiving Feast – Mr. Goulette will organize the dutch oven cooking again this year and Mr. Springer will continue to cook the full dinner (with assistance!).  Each scout should provide $3 next Thursday to their patrol leader for the cost of Thanksgiving Feast and dutch oven cooking.  Each patrol will select a recipe and Mr. Goulette will purchase the necessary supplies.  Patrols are expected to prepare and cook their dessert on Saturday afternoon.

 

Adults planning on attending the Thanksgiving Feast are requested to let Ken Springer know by next week.  A special invitation is extended to all members of the Troop 874 family to attend the Thanksgiving Feast.  The cost for the entire weekend is $20 per person.  Cost for the Feast is $3.

 

Permission Slips - Permission slips for the November camping trip to Broadcreek are due next week at the regular weekly meeting.  This trip will include the Role Play and the Thanksgiving Feast on Saturday evening. 

 

Role Play – A meeting of Role Play participants will be held on Sunday evening, 7:00 pm, at the home of Mark Moulding.  Interested adults, Troop leadership, and scouts from the Venture program and Instructors are encouraged to attend.  The Role Play will take place on the weekend of the Thanksgiving Feast (Nov 21 – 23).

 

Eagle Scout Court of Honor – Next Thursday their will be an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Shawn Beaumont.  This is a great opportunity to recognize Shawn and his family for this tremendous achievement.

 

Order of the Arrow Callout will take place at the regular meeting on November 13.

 

Adult Training – Two short training sessions are being offered by the National Pike District.

 

A one day session covering New Leaders Essentials and Troop Committee members will be offered on Saturday, Nov 8 from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Another one day session covering New Leaders Essentials and Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster will be offered on Saturday, Nov 15 from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 The training sessions will be offered at the Church of the Resurrection Hall, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City, MD.  The cost is $10.00.  Interested individuals can register with Cheryl Murphy

American Odyssey Relay Race – The troop is interested in organizing a relay team to participate in this 200 mile race from Gettysburg, Pa to Washington, D.C on 24-25 April, 2009.  The team can consist of 12 runners including adults and scouts.  Scouts should be 16 years of age preferably with cross country running experience.  Each runner will be expected to complete 3 separate legs between 3.5 and 8.5 miles in length over approximately 24 – 30 hours.  The course will span three states and the District of Columbia crossing through major Civil War battlefields.  There is an individual fee of $100 to enter the race.  For more information about the race and course, see http://www.americanodysseyrelay.com/.
