Meeting Notes from Troop 874,

Supreme Sports Club-December Outing.  Mr. Benz is still looking for scouts and adults to assist in planning and executing the Supreme Sports Club outing.  Scouts can complete requirements for the Athletics merit badge by working with Mr. Benz.  Adults with knowledge or expertise in certain athletics events should contact Mark Benz

 

There is still an opportunity to sign up for the event using the attached permission slip.  This event promises to be a great activity with swimming, skating, basketball, racquetball and many other organized events.  The outing will be held on Saturday, Dec 13 and will conclude on Sunday morning, Dec 14.  Permission slips MUST be submitted by this Thursday, Dec 11.  The cost is $9.00 for each attendee (scout or adult).  For more information see Mr. Mark Benz.

 

Wish Upon A Star.  Gifts purchased by scouts must be returned regular troop meeting next Thursday.  The scouts must return the gift they we assigned to purchase along with the receipt and any unspent funds.  The gifts should not be wrapped.  The Wish Upon A Star program provides Christmas gifts from Troop 874 to members of the Glen Mar United Methodist Church congregation.  See the note below on fund raising activities.

 

January 2009 Trip.  Scouts and adults who intend to attend the January trip to Camp Tomahawk in West Virginia should provide $20 per person.  Scouts should provide funds to their patrol leaders and adults may provide funds directly to Mr. Ken Springer.  All funds must be received by Dec 18.  

 

Skiing Trip in February 2009.  Permissions slips are available for individuals interested in skiing in February.  Initial payments are due shortly.  See Mr. Dave Eddy.

 

American Odyssey Relay Race.  We are closing in on submitting a team for the American Odyssey Relay Race.  Interested scouts should complete the attached registration form and return to Mr. Hunt ASAP.  The fee is $100 and the check should be made to Troop 874.  Permission slips and funds should be submitted by Dec 31.  Many have expressed interest but no formal commitment has been received.  The Troop hopes to field a team of at least 8 scouts and 4 adults.  See the attached flyer and permission slip.  For more information contact Mr. Bud Hunt or Mr. Todd Pearsall .

 

Den Chiefs Needed.  There is a critical need for Den Chiefs in local Cub Scout Packs.  Being a Den Chief is a great way to fulfill leadership requirements for rank advancement.  It is also a great way to influence Cub Scouts to join Troop 874.  See Mr. Will Land for more information.

 

Metric Marathon.  The Metric marathon scheduled for Dec 7 was cancelled and there is no information on rescheduling.  Thanks to those who expressed interest in staffing the Troop 874 water station.  

 

Eagle Projects.  Mr. Bob Scarburgh has information on possible Eagle Scout Projects at Patapsco Valley State Park.  See Mr. Scarburgh during a troop meeting or e-mail him.

 

Mulch Sales Project.  The Executive Committee has decided to again run the mulch sales project in 2009.  The project entails selling and distributing bags of high quality hardwood mulch and will be held in late March.  Proceeds from the sales go towards the Wish Upon A Star program which provides Christmas gifts to members of the Glen Mar United Methodist Church community.   Mr. Phil Conant will head up this event and he is looking for adults to assist in several areas.  Contact Phil Conant.

 

Information worth repeating:

National Boy Scout Jamboree.  There is a great opportunity to attend the BSA Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill in July 2010.  This Jamboree will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in the United States.  It will also be the last Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill as scouting is seeking a new location.  Two scouts from Troop 874 have already signed up.  Scouts can speak with Daniel Hunt and Sam Kraft.  Scouts must be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010 and no older than 18 by August 4, 2010.  To register with the Baltimore Area contingent at:  www.MyScouting.org.  For additional information go to www.bsajamboree.org or contact Mr. Bud Hunt.
