Meeting Notes from Troop 874, February 19, 2009

The leadership training scheduled for this weekend is cancelled.  The three-day training session has been rescheduled for March 6-8.  See the SPL-in-Waiting Sam Kraft for more details.  This training session is mandatory for all scouts in leadership positions.  Make time for scouting, not excuses!

Summer Camp at Camp Ockanickon Scout Reservation.  Troop 874 will attend Camp Ockanickon from July 12 - July 18.  The fee for camp is $374 and an initial payment of $150 was due at the February 19 Troop meeting.  However, the troop will accept initial payments ($150) until next Thursday, February 26.  See the attached letter and permission slip.

Saturday Morning Run with Troop 874.  The Troop's entrants for the American Odyssey Relay Race will run at Centennial Lake on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 am.  All scouts and scouters are invited to join the run from the parking lot adjacent to the refreshment stand.  The group will run twice around the 2.4 mile Centennial Lake for a total of 4.8 miles.  All are invited to attend.

Troop Court of Honor February 26.  Next Thursday the Troop will hold its semi-annual Court of Honor.  This is an opportunity to recognize scouts who have worked hard to earn merit badges and advance in rank.  Comes join us in honoring and congratulating our scouts!!!  Also, the new leadership team will be inducted and the reins of power (actually the staff of power and authority!) will transfer to the new Senior Patrol Leader.  The meeting will start at 7:30 pm SHARP!

Information Worth Repeating

Mulch Sales.  The Troop is once again sponsoring a hardwood bark mulch sale.  Scouts will deliver 2.0 cu. ft. bags (minimum order 5 bags for delivery) to your home for a cost of $3.75 per bag.  You can order through the troop web site (http://www.troop874.com/Events/MulchSaleOrderForm.htm) or use the attached form.  Order by March 22 for delivery on Saturday, March 28.  See Mr. Phil Conant for more information (e-mail: Troop874.mulch@gmail.com).  We also need adults to help Phil plan the delivery and Scouts are expected to assist in delivering the mulch.  Proceeds go directly to the troop.  See attached ordering form.

Den Chiefs Needed.  Many local Cub Scout packs could use a few good scouts!  For boy scouts serving as a den chief is a great way to earn their leadership for rank advancement.  It is also a way to influence cub scouts to consider joining boy scouts, especially Troop 874.  See Mr. Will Land for more information.

Scout Dues Are Overdue!  More than 50 scouts are more than $5.00 behind in their troop dues.  Scouts should check with their Assistant Senior Patrol Leader or Patrol Leader to determine if they are behind in their dues.  It is the scout's responsibility to keep their dues current.  Dues must be brought up to date before the Court of Honor!

American Odyssey Relay Race.  The Troop is looking for one more scout to round out the rooster for the Relay.  Interested scouts should complete the attached registration form and return to Mr. Hunt ASAP.  The fee is $100 and the check should be made to Troop 874.  The Troop hopes to field a team of at least 8 scouts and 4 adults for this April 2009 event.  For more information contact Mr. Bud Hunt or Mr. Todd Pearsall. Check out  http://www.americanodysseyrelay.com/ for more information from the race organizers.
