Troop 874 meeting notes – June 25, 2009

 

Baltimore Orioles game tickets – A few tickets for the Saturday, June 27 Orioles – National game are still available.  The cost is $7.00, a real bargain.  Contact Mr. Pier Carroll.  Mr. Carroll will also be available with the few remaining tickets from 6:00 – 6:30 pm on game day.  Look for him by the Babe Ruth statue.  Note:  because this will be a Troop function adults are expected to refrain from drinking alcohol while sitting with the troop.

 

Patrol Formations and Selection of Patrol and Crew Leaders – The Ranger and Venture programs continue to re-form patrols and elect leaders for these patrols and crews.  Scouts should be ready to serve in these important positions.  Scouts should confirm their need for leadership to advance to the next rank.  Scouts, it is your scouting career and program to run and manage!!!

 

New SPL Conor S. is looking for troop members to fill positions such as Assistant Senior Patrol leaders and other troop positions.  A leadership position is an awesome responsibility and a great opportunity.  Contact Conor to discuss a position with the troop.

 

Cycling Merit Badge – Mr. Dean Clark will sponsor the continuing bicycle rides leading to the completion of the cycling merit badge.  The rides will be Saturday at 3:00 pm (Baltimore- Annapolis Trail starting in Glen Burnie) and Sunday at 8:00 am (BWI Trail).  Contact Dean Clark for more information.

 

Old Becomes New – Did you know that Glen Mar UMC also sponsors a Venturing Crew?  Hans Moeller and Randy Possehl are working to re-form the previous Venturing Crew.  A meeting will be held on Thursday, July 2 at 7:30 at Glen Mar UMC.  Venturing is for youth between 14 and 20 years of age. 

 

Glen Mar UMV to Sponsor Gift Card Program – Troop 874’s sponsor is offering a Gift Card program.  Gift cards from over 400 merchants (70 local merchants and stores) are available.  This debit-card like script can be purchased through the troop or direct from Glen Mar UMC.  Most of the proceeds are used to support Mission Ministries and Disaster Relief through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  Attached is additional information on the Gift Card program.  Also attached is an order form for your use.  For more information contact Mr. Dan Edwards with Troop 874.  This is a great opportunity to support our troop sponsor!  

 

Troop T-shirts: New Troop T-shirts are available from Dennis G.  Shirts that were previously ordered will be provided first.  A limited number of new Troop T-shirts will also be available for $14 each. 

 

Troop Hats:  Troop hats will also be available for purchase on Thursday.  Scouts are required to wear a troop hat to summer camp.  Don’t forget to print your scout’s name in that new hat!  See Dennis G. to purchase a troop hat.

 

Information on 2009 Summer Camp – Attached are two files with information on 2009 Summer Camp at Camp Ockanickon.  This information was provided during the parent's orientation but the troop wanted to make it available again.

Merit Badge Selections for Camp Ockanickon – Ranger and Venture attending Camp Ockanickon this summer should have received a merit badge selection form.  These forms must be completed before attending camp so that individual schedules can be assembled.  Scouts must consult with an adult leader in their assigned program (assistant scoutmaster, patrol coach, etc).  Completed forms must be returned to Mr. Ludlow ASAP.

 

Summer Camp Physicals –Rita Bietry is collecting physicals for Camp Ockanickon attendees.  Scouts will need a Class 1 and Class 2 physical or have a current Class 3 physical.  Parts A and C of the physical must be completed.  An electronic version of the BSA physical is available on the Baltimore Area Council website (http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.asp?orgkey=749&id=54259)

Adult Training Records – Adults should provide their record of training to Mr. Bob Scarborough.

 

Youth Protection Training – Will Land will conduct Youth Protection Training for adults on Thursday, July 9.  All adults attending summer camp must have participated in Youth Protection Training.  Let Will Land know you are interested and that you will attend.

 

The green Troop 874 number patches are available for purchase from Mrs. Beaumont for $2.00 each. These patches have all three troop numerals on the same patch.
