Troop 874 Notes October 15, 2009

Weekend Camping – The Troop will meet at 6:00 pm Friday for the camping trip to Pine Grove Furnace State Park.  The weather will continue to be rainy and cold with temperatures predicted as low as the 35 Degrees F!!!  Scouts MUST have hiking boots or some other form of weather-proof foot wear.  Scouts wearing sneakers or athletic shoes will not be allowed on the trip.  Rain gear is a must and woolen sweaters or synthetic/polyester shirts/sweaters are preferred.  A warm hat and gloves are appropriate.  Leave the COTTON SWEATSHIRTS at home!  There will be an inspection of personnel gear before departing on Friday evening.  Remember the Boy Scout Motto:  Be Prepared!

Venturing Crew will meet at 6:30 for departure to Washington Monument State Park.

Registration for Troop 874 – Parents must pickup their registration packet during the regular troop meeting.  The troop is requesting that registration be completed by the end of October.  Please make every effort to register on time.

Webelos-O-Ree – The troop expects to staff a station and troop display at the Webelos-O-Ree on October 24 at Broad Creek Scout Reservation.  This is an important recruiting tool for the troop.  See Conor Soop or Mr. Mike Rice.

Popcorn sales – The troop began its 2009 Popcorn Sale on September 3 and the program will run through October 22.  Scouts are selling Trail’s End popcorn which is a great product with several varieties available.  There are incentives (prizes) offered by the Baltimore Area Council to the highest seller.  How about a trip to Disney World?  That is the Council prize for the scout with the highest sales.  You can also win a week of summer camp at Broad Creek.  The Troop is offering a rock climbing party at Earth Treks for the patrol with the highest average sales (per scout) on November 6.  And if that is not enough incentive to sell popcorn approximately 70% of the sales go to scouting including 30-35% going to the Troop.  The troop profits support the Wish Upon A Star program at Glen Mar UMC where gifts are purchased for distribution to needy families at the Christmas season.

Last day for Popcorn sales will be next Thursday, October 22

For more information on the Trail End popcorn sales see Mrs. Karla Dwyer.
