Troop 874 notes February 25, 2010

 

Congratulations to all the scouts who were recognized at the Court of Honor for rank advancement and completing merit badges!

 

Scouting for Food – Scouts will meet at Glen Mar at 8:30, Saturday, February 27 to begin distribution of food bags.  Scouts will pick up the food bags on Saturday, March 6.  Parent volunteers are essential to the success of this effort as well as the hard work of our scouts.  See Mr. Trevor Jules for more information.

 

Junior Leadership Training – JLT for the newly elected and selected scout leaders will be held Saturday, Feb 27 beginning at 8:30 at Glen Mar.  The training will take place throughout the day.

 

Patrol Advisor Training – Training for all Patrol Advisors (adult leaders) will take place on Mar 10 beginning at 7:30 pm.  Contact Mr. Hal Clay for more information.

 

Mulch Sale – It’s that time again (despite the snow on the ground) to think about mulching the garden!  Troop 874 is conducting its annual mulch sale.  See attached flyer or go to the Troop 874 web site for more information.  Mulch order should be placed by March 11 with cash, check or money order made out to Troop 874.  Home delivery for those who purchase 5 or more bags is set for Saturday, March 27.  Mr. Roger Desai is heading up this effort and he can be contacted at Troop874mulch@gmail.com. 

 

Mulch Sale Meeting –An organizational meeting will take place on March 4 shortly after the regular meeting begins.  Karla Dwyer is seeking volunteers to assistant in organizing the mulch distribution including planning routes, loading and delivering mulch.  Please attend this important meeting!

 

Grassroots – Ms Landry-Fida is heading up the Troop efforts to assist the Grassroots Homeless Shelter.  Next Thursday, March 4 will be the last opportunity to donate materials. See the attached list of items in particular need.  Shortly scouts will be able to spend time working at the Grassroots Shelter which can be used to fulfill service hours for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge.

 

Venture Scuba Diving – Mr. Sivo announced an interesting and exciting program in scuba diving for this summer.  Scouts must decide on one of three camps that offer the opportunity to become qualified in scuba diving.  See the attached flyer for more information.

 

Friends of Scouting - The annual Friends of Scouting drive has been kicked off at the Court of Honor.  Thie is an important way to support scouting financially.  A donation at the One Scout Level ($145) supports a scout for a year in the Baltimore Area Council.  See the form on the troop web site or use a form povided at the regular troop meeting.  See Bud Hunt for more information.
