Forms for youth and adult physicals for those going to Broad Creek must be turned in to the troop immediately!

Gordon Serrao’s Eagle Court of Honor is Thursday, 8 July, at 7:30 p.m. in our old room (Youth World - downstairs).  Please park in the lower parking lot.  Congratulations, Gordon!

The monthly committee meeting is tomorrow, 7 July, at 7:30 p.m.  an agenda will be sent out tonight.  If you have items for the agenda, please send them to comchair.troop874@gmail.com.

Youth Protection Training: As of June 1, 2010, all adults in Scouting must take Youth Protection Training. You will not be allowed to reregister unless BSA has a record of this course completion. The course qualification lasts for two years and then the course must be retaken to certify. The Troop will be keeping a file of adult Scouters and when they took the course and you will be reminded when you training will expire so you can recertify. In order for this to happen, please make a copy of your course completion and send it to Bob Scarburgh.  If you haven't taken the course yet, it may be taken on-line and takes only a few minutes to complete. Upon completion, you will be able to print a copy of your certification. Make a copy of this and send to Bob. By taking the course as soon as possible will also make the re-registration process a lot easier for the Troop later in the year.

Merit Badge Counselors: The annual re-registration process for Troop Merit Badge Counselors has been completed. The following people have been removed from the list of counselors because they did not reregister. If they want to be a counselor again, they will have to complete all the paperwork again including the background check.

Wood Badge is the highest level of adult training and is highly recommended for those adults who are involved in the program.  It really does strengthen the scouting skills that you will use with the youth!  For this fall, there is an orientation on 19 August, and the rest of the schedule is:  September 11-13 and October 15-17, 2010.  You must attend all sessions.  To sign up, download the form at http://www.woodbadgebaltimore.org/Forms/NE%20VI-75%20flyer.pdf.  Upon completion, the troop will pay for 50% of the cost.

Thomas R’s Eagle Project will be Saturday, July 10th, from 9-4 at the First Prsbyterian Church of Howard County (9325 Presbyterian Circle, Columbia, MD 21045 – near the intersection of MD Route 108 and US Highway 29).  The project is building benches and pews at an outdoor sanctuary.  Please bring work gloves, cordless drills, ratchet sets or box wrenches, shovels, posthole diggers and ENERGY!  Food will be provided.  This counts as service time and is a great warm-up to summer camp!

Baseball Night – Mark your calendars for 21 August.  It is a 4:10 start and the O’s will play Texas.  More details will be coming….

Trip to 2010 Jamboree – The day trip on 29 July 2010 to the National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, is not fully booked.  If you still want to go, contact Goeff Haver immediately.  It is $55 per person.  Unless there is sufficient participation by Thursday, July 1, the troop sponsored trip will be cancelled.

Adventure Base 100 will be at the Inner Harbor on 17 & 18 July!  Adventure Base 100 is traveling across the country to give people an exciting, hands-on view of the history and future of the Boy Scouts of America.  It started in Pasadena with the festivities around the 2010 Rose Bowl and lands in major media markets across the country to rally people of all ages to join the BSA in “Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey.” Everyone is invited to attend (see http://nationalpike.org/node/255 for more info).  We still need adults and older scouts to help run the event; you can sign up at: http://nationalpike.org/sites/default/files/AB100%20Volunteer%20Form_distributed.pdf.

Philmont - Pete Walsh needs a female chaperone to go to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico from July 8th-21st. They had a female chaperone but just found out that the chaperone has to be 21 and over; so they need to find someone fast or else the girls under 21 can't go.  The trip would be free for the female chaperone. Ladies, if you would be interested, please contact Pete Walsh immediately.

Venturing Crew 874 – Yes, folks Crew 874 is reforming!  After a brief hiatus, Venturing Crew 874 will be reforming in the fall.  Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.  Crew 874 has a full year of activity in the making.  Youth interested in hearing more about Venturing Crew 874 are encouraged to speak with Randy Possehl , send an email to crew874@gmail.com, or show up at the first meeting on August 30th.
