TOGA Campership Fund
The TOGA Campership Fund (hereafter referred to as the Fund) is established to provide funding for deserving Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Venturing Scouts from the National Pike District to attend summer camps sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. The Funds may also be used to provide camping supplies and uniform items in support of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts selected by the Fund to attend summer camps sponsored by BSA.
The Fund is managed by Troop 874, National Pike District, Baltimore Area Council in recognition of the long and faithful service of George W. Baker, Troop 874 Scoutmaster for 24 years. Each year deserving Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Venturing Scouts may submit a request for funding to attend a summer camp sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. Applicants must be currently registered in a Venturing Crew, Boy Scout Troop, or Cub Scout Pack which is chartered to a sponsoring organization in the National Pike District. Applicants must demonstrate scout spirit and dedication to the ideals of scouting. Scouts must demonstrate financial need and the application must include an endorsement from his scoutmaster, cubmaster, or similar unit leader at the time their application is submitted to Troop 874. The applications will be reviewed for funding by five adult members of Troop 874. Members reviewing and approving the applications will include currently registered committee members and the scoutmaster or assistant scoutmasters. George Baker will be offered the opportunity to participate in the review and selection of these applicants as one of the five member committee of Troop 874.
The Fund shall be supported by direct contributions to a separate fund managed by Troop 874 but which is not part of the general troop fund. Each year up to 80% of annual contributions to the Fund shall be disbursed to deserving applicants. The applicants may be funded for all or a portion of fees to attend a BSA approved summer camp. Remaining funds received shall be invested in interest bearing instruments with the goal of accumulating sufficient principal to generate interest to fund the equivalent of two full camperships per year. When the goal of funding the equivalent of two full camperships is achieved then 100 % of all annual funds received in the previous calendar year shall be awarded to appropriate scouts. To increase the appeal of the Fund to potential contributors, the troop will examine the feasibility of setting up the Fund so that donations are tax-exempt under the Federal tax code.
